Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain

Following an international competition were appointed to prepare the master plan for the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain in Sydney, Australia. This is the first master plan in the history of the Garden and coincides with the site’s bicentenary in 2016.

The aim of the master plan is an integrated plan to guide all future use, development and management of this internationally significant cultural and historic landscapes of the Royal Botanic Garden and the Domain.

Underpinning the vision for the Master Plan is the Trust’s mission to connect people with plants through imaginative horticulture, beautiful landscapes, transformative learning experiences and cultural events. The strategy addresses the need to improve the legibility and structure of the historic landscape and reinforces the botanical science role of the Garden and seeks to showcase and promote awareness of the beauty and wonder of plants. In addition, the strategy sets out opportunities to engage positively with the surrounding cultural precincts to promote active uses and cultural events in the Gardens and Domain.
