University of Bath

Bath, UK

We had a major role in the masterplanning of the University of Bath’s Claverton Down campus and the new English Institute of Sport with its associated infrastructure. The scheme features student accommodation, car parks, access roads, an arrival space and a transport hub, as well as a wider landscape framework including strategic planting and earthworks.

The aim was to maintain the central parkland setting and local character of the university complex and to ‘bring in’ the Cotswold downland landscape around the edges of the campus. The design respects the qualities of the adjacent Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in its sensitive integration of the new development into its surroundings. Vehicles are kept to the outskirts of the site, optimising space in the core of the university for buildings, landscape, staff and students.
